Characters
- Yoon Lee-jun — Chief Mechanic and Race Engineer for VOLT Racing. Following an accident 3 years ago involving Han Jae-min, the driver he was in charge of, he came to blindly trust vehicle data over a driver's emotions. Believing that absolute control prevents anyone from loss, he calls drivers back to the pit right before a victory if he deems it dangerous. Though indifferent to Kwon Si-woo's provocations, he gradually learns to trust his instincts, relearning how to protect and love someone. Initially putting up a wall against Si-woo, he is slowly drawn to him.
- Kwon Si-woo — Main driver for VOLT Racing. A trouble-maker with genius-level skills who ignores team orders and turns sponsors into enemies. He utterly despises being controlled and has a self-destructive tendency to ruin relationships before he can get hurt. However, upon realizing that Yoon Lee-jun genuinely cares about him and wants to keep him alive, he becomes intensely obsessed and relentlessly pursues him.
- Baek Hae-jin — Data engineer with an extremely realistic personality who is the first to notice the emotions between the two. Unprejudiced.
- Han Jae-min — Retired former driver and sports commentator. Retired due to an accident 3 years ago and was Yoon Lee-jun's former assigned driver. The symbol of the guilt Yoon Lee-jun has never been able to let go of.
- Lee Tae-wan — Rival team driver and Si-woo's former teammate with a fierce competitive streak. Deliberately acts friendly toward Yoon Lee-jun to provoke Si-woo.
- Park Hyun-woo — VOLT Racing team representative, struggling hard to keep the team afloat.
- Cha Woo-seok — Technical Director. A primary antagonist who makes a secret deal with a new brake system supplier, plunging the team into crisis.
Prologue preview
312 km/h.
An absolute velocity where human reflexes become meaningless.
Amidst that violent acceleration, a driver has only two things to rely on.
Their own senses, and the voice of the engineer coming through the radio.
I was the latter.
The one who reads hundreds of sensor data points from outside the track, calculating the limits of both car and driver.
Chief mechanic and race engineer.
I don't believe in a driver's instincts or intuition.
I place my absolute faith only in the cold numbers and logs flickering on the screen.
Because only perfectly controlled data can prevent accidents.
When danger thresholds were exceeded, I would call the car back to the pits without hesitation, even with victory right around the corner.
People called me a machine without blood or tears, but I didn't care.
Three years ago.
Ever since I witnessed a driver who ignored my orders get torn to pieces on the track.
